Mole calculations, bonding, the periodic table, and conservation of mass keep returning. Students who half-learned them in Term 1 spend the rest of the year translating every new topic back into confusion. This term is the cheapest time to fix that.
Foundation work is active, not pretty notes
Can the student convert units without a prompt? Balance a simple equation? Explain why sodium and chlorine behave differently? If the answer is no, more highlighting will not help. Short, repeated practice with feedback will.
Use classwork as the diagnostic
The next SAC, topic test, or homework set already shows the gap. A tutor should start there, then drill the underlying idea until the student can do a fresh question without the original example in sight.

Final Thoughts
Strong chemistry later in the year is usually just clean foundations from this term. Fix the ideas that keep returning, and the new topics get lighter.
