Does speed reading really work?+
Efficiency gains are real - reducing regression and subvocalising helps most readers. Claims of enormous speeds with full comprehension are not credible, and we will not make them.
Will comprehension suffer?+
Not if it is taught properly. We measure comprehension throughout, and slow down wherever the text demands it.
What age suits it?+
Upper primary upwards, once reading is fluent. It is most useful for students with heavy reading loads.
How long before we see a difference?+
Most students see measurable gains within a term, though the biggest change is usually knowing when not to read fast.
