Why choose us

English at NCEA Level 1

Level 1 English is where students learn that identifying a technique is not the same as explaining its effect. That distinction is the whole difference between Achieved and Excellence.

  • Taught against the exact internal and external standards your child sits
  • Unfamiliar text practised as a repeatable method
  • Literacy co-requisite preparation built in

Common Questions, Answered

Can't find what you need? Our academic advisors are available across New Zealand time zones.

What is the difference between Achieved and Excellence in English?+
Achieved identifies a language feature; Merit explains its effect; Excellence explains its effect with insight and sustained, well-selected evidence. We teach the difference explicitly rather than hoping students infer it.
Does English tutoring cover the literacy co-requisite?+
Yes. The literacy co-requisite is assessed separately from subject standards, and we prepare students for it alongside their English course.
Can you work with the texts my child's class is studying?+
Yes - tell us the novel, film or set text and we build the sessions around it, so tutoring reinforces rather than duplicates classwork.
