What Is Computer Science in the Canadian Curriculum?

Computing shows up twice in Canadian schools: as coding expectations inside the mathematics curriculum from the elementary grades, and as standalone senior courses. Ontario runs ICS3U Introduction to Computer Science and ICS4U Computer Science, both university-preparation credits. British Columbia offers Computer Studies 11 and Computer Programming 12. Alberta delivers computing through Career and Technology Studies modules. What they share is a difficulty curve: students who can follow along in class often cannot start from a blank file, and that gap only closes by writing code with someone watching.

Which courses and languages do you cover?+
Ontario ICS3U and ICS4U, BC Computer Studies 11 and Computer Programming 12, and Alberta CTS computing modules - primarily in Python and Java.
My teen understands the lessons but cannot start a program from scratch. Is that normal?+
Very. Following worked examples and producing code independently are different skills. Sessions are built around your teen writing the code while the tutor watches and intervenes, which is the only reliable way to close that gap.
Can you help with culminating projects?+
Yes - planning, structuring and debugging. We guide and review; the code stays your teen's own work, as school academic honesty policies require.
Do you help with the coding strand in maths?+
Yes. Ontario's revised mathematics curriculum in particular has explicit coding expectations, and we cover them alongside the rest of the maths.
