Why it works

What Is Elementary ELA?

English Language Arts is the literacy strand of the elementary curriculum in every Canadian province - reading, writing, oral communication and media literacy. Ontario teaches it as Language in Grades 1 to 8, British Columbia as English Language Arts under its Big Ideas and Curricular Competencies, and Alberta as English Language Arts and Literature. The wording differs; the foundation does not. Our tutors work from your child's own grade-level expectations and the work coming home from school.

  • 01 Matched to grade level and provincial curriculum
  • 02 Same dedicated tutor for continuity
  • 03 Homework support without the evening struggle

Questions parents ask

Common Questions, Answered

Can't find what you need? Our academic advisors are available across Canadian time zones.

Which grades does Elementary ELA tutoring cover?+
Grades 1 through 6. For Grades 7 and up, our High School ELA program picks up with essay writing and literary analysis.
Does this follow my province's curriculum?+
Yes. Lessons are planned from the curriculum your child's school follows - the Ontario Language curriculum, the BC English Language Arts curriculum, or Alberta's English Language Arts and Literature programs of study.
Can you prepare my child for provincial literacy testing?+
Yes. We prepare students for the reading and writing components of EQAO in Ontario (Grades 3 and 6) and the Grade 6 Provincial Achievement Test in Alberta, using the question formats those assessments actually use.
My child can read but does not understand what they read. Can you help?+
That is one of the most common reasons families come to us. Fluent decoding and real comprehension are different skills, and we assess them separately before building a plan that targets whichever one is holding your child back.
